eggs in water

There are several ways to check if an egg is okay or if, on the contrary, we should throw it away. For example, if when you shake the raw egg you hear the yolk hit the shell; it is possible that this egg is spoiled.

However, there is a way to know if the eggs are spoiled in many other ways:

throw the egg into the water

The first thing you will have to do is put the egg in a container of water, if possible clear, so that you can see the result more easily.

In addition, you will have to take into account a number of points:

  • If the egg  descends quickly and stays at the bottom horizontally; so it’s in good condition and it’s fresh.
  • If you notice that the egg slowly falls to the bottom slanted or completely upright, then the egg is not fresh.

Consider that the  greater the degree of inclination you observe, the older the egg will be. However, the egg can still be consumed.

  • If the egg does not reach the bottom and is  slightly floating, this is an indication that it is in bad condition  and the best thing to do is to throw it away.
  • If, in addition, you notice that the egg is floating on the surface completely, it means that it is totally rotten.

This fluctuation is produced by the gases that organic matter generates when it decomposes and, as we said, the egg has already entered a state in which it should not be consumed.

cook the egg

  • If we cook the egg and, when we cut it in half, we see that  the yolk is centered and the air chamber is small,  the egg is in a good condition to be consumed.
  • Otherwise; if the yolk is closer to the shell and the air region is large, the egg is rotten.

open the egg

Another simple way to see if an egg is fresh or not is to open it and toss its contents onto a plate.
  • If you notice that  the egg doesn’t expand much and the yolk becomes compact;  then the egg is fresh.
  • Otherwise, if you see that the egg is on the plate and the white and yolk are expanding all over the plate, reaching the point where the yolk is fully spread, then you must take into account that the egg is not fresh.

The reason? Eggs spoil in week 4, depending on the date on the label.

From then onwards they begin to lose their organoleptic properties and it is necessary to be careful in their consumption, especially from week 6.

In addition, other recommendations that revolve around the egg conservation include  leaving them in their original pack and always in a cool and dry place.

Thus, they can stay for up to three weeks in perfect condition.

If you make a dish that contains eggs, you can  always keep leftovers in the fridge; well chilled  and in an airtight container.

These dishes can be consumed 3 or 4 days later if they are in these storage conditions. However, the best thing in any case will be to see certain aspects such as its possible smell, etc.

Remember that with high temperatures, food lasts less in good condition and,  perhaps, it is not advisable to store it for more than 2 days.
