8 Symptoms Of A Liver Problem

The specialist doctor is the one who should diagnose the type of liver disease we have and prescribe the most appropriate treatment. Leading a healthy life is critical to avoiding liver-related illnesses.

The liver is an essential organ in our body. It performs a multitude of basic functions essential for our survival and the correct functioning of our bodies. Therefore, it is important to know any symptoms that may indicate the existence of a liver problem.

We must remember that the liver basically has three functions: that of purifying our blood, eliminating toxins and cells that have become useless, helping to synthesize carbohydrates and lipids, which will have a total influence on the body’s ability to prevent bleeding, and store substances such as vitamins A, D, K and E, which are essential for providing energy to the body.

Indicators of a liver problem

1. Nausea

It is the first and most obvious symptom of a liver problem. We usually feel bad after eating or even feel a heavy stomach, nausea and nausea, which may even culminate in vomiting.

That’s not such a big reason to be alarmed; these symptoms can be associated with several problems and not precisely with a liver. But, if they are repetitive and associated with other symptoms that we will mention below, the ideal is to seek a doctor urgently.

2. Pain in the upper abdomen

Liver pain is felt in the upper abdomen, just under the ribs, and extends to the back, sometimes causing abdominal swelling. It is possible that, associated with pain, the symptoms of burning and fever may appear, but, as mentioned above, in view of these symptoms, a doctor should be consulted. Other problems that cause such symptoms, for example, are inflammation in the region or biliary colic.

3. Jaundice

Jaundice presents itself as a discoloration of the skin to a very characteristic yellowish tinge, which manifests itself both on the face and on the rest of the body. This happens due to excess bilirubin (bile) in our body and blood, caused by a liver problem. This is one of the initial symptoms, mainly associated with contagious hepatitis.

4. Fatigue and weakness

When we suffer a liver problem, it is common to feel more tired, exhausted and without much appetite. On some occasions we can associate the symptoms with other things and not give them due importance, as it is usual to show tiredness or weakness.

But when these symptoms become continuous, when lack of appetite and exhaustion are constant, it is necessary to be suspicious of a more serious problem and seek medical attention.

5. Fever

Sometimes there is pain in the abdomen, we feel swollen, heavy and very tired. Given these symptoms, we should watch our temperature and, if there is a fever, we have a sign of inflammation or infection. In this case, it is necessary that we do not neglect and ignore the symptoms.

6. Clear stools

Through the symptoms already mentioned, observe the color of your stool when you go to the bathroom. If they are light in color, it is possible to associate all other symptoms with a liver problem  or an irritable bowel that is indirectly associated with liver problems.

7. Itching in the body

This symptom arises due to the accumulation of bile under the skin. The body itches and we feel very uncomfortable as the blood reacts to the accumulation of toxins that the liver has failed to filter.

8. Bleeds and bruises

A less common symptom, but associated with a liver problem. Bleeding a lot and frequently through the nose, or bruises appearing without knowing where they came from, is related to a protein deficiency due to the malfunction of the liver. These symptoms need to be considered.

* All the symptoms detailed here are associated with liver problems, but the one who will determine the nature of these will be a doctor;  he will tell you if these symptoms are caused by problems such as fatty liver, inflammation or hepatitis, etc. Descriptive charts are often very similar and only medical tests can tell you what type of liver disease is present.
